Firstly a big Ho Ho Ho as the man in the red suit bellows out, he would be great at Laughter Therapy which is exactly what we completed this week. Congratulations to all who attended and all who helped to make week 5 a success.
This week we welcomed Catherine Hewitt Reiki Master and Certified Laughter Yoga Facilitator.
Catherine introduced us to Laughter Yoga which is a group session of aerobic activity that turns fake laughter into real laughter. Consisting of hand-clapping in a rhythmic pattern, breathing exercises that have been derived from Yoga, and playful laughter exercises. The fake laughter fools our brain as the brain cannot differentiate between fake laughter and genuine laughter as both forms of laughter provide the same benefits of laughter anyway. But it is difficult to not progress into a real laugh once you hear some of the fake laughs being produced in your group. When there is a group the laughter can become contagious and the participants gain the benefits, which are well researched. The benefits being reduction in stress and tension, it provides aerobic exercise and increases oxygen supply to the brain. Laughter releases endorphins which help us feel good it burns calories and stabilises blood sugar. It can strengthen our immune system and Lower blood pressure and produce a feeling of relaxation and wellbeing. It can also if practiced at home or work enhance relationships, wellbeing and productivity.
Now our session created a variety of evil laughs, snickering, joyous laughing and a whole heap of funny one liners. It was a great session as Catherine took us through various situations that led us to burst out with a good laugh. Have you ever shook some ones hand and just laughed at them, no hello just a laugh feels weird. We also did the hokey pokey with us all laughing out the song instead of singing it….now that’s a laugh.
All in all we had a fabulous side splitting time…
Looking forward to seeing you all next week and there are still places available for those that wish to attend….
